Medical Prank Mixup

Mistakes

I was living in a small town of about 2,500 people and my phone number was one digit different than that of the local medical clinic. On weekdays that I was home, often I received calls from the public, trying to make appointments to see their doctor. After two years of this happening, I had enough!

When I answered the phone with my normal "Hello", the female voice on the other end said, "Is this the medical clinic?"
I said, "Yes it is. What can I do for you?" She explained that her daughter had a rash on her arm and she wanted an appointment with Dr. Dehaeck just before noon because she had to pick her
daughter up from school. Was the doctor in?

I calmy replied, "Dr. Dehaeck is in this morning, and can see you at 11:45." She said that was perfect! Then she said, "I guess I should tell you my daughter's name - this is for Fullea Aspeslet."

Oh my God! I was talking to my next door neighbor!

I quickly looked through the window into her house and saw her on the phone. I hid around the corner of the wall to finish my conversation so she wouldn't see me talking to her!

After she thanked me and hung up, I panicked! I called the real medical clinic, and tried to book Fullea an appointment with Dr. Dehaeck. As it happened, not only was he not in that day, but there were no appointments with any doctor until 2:00 p.m. I booked a 2:00 appointment, and wiped my sweaty brow. I have not tried this tomfoolery since, even though I have ample opportunity! My number in my new town is one digit away from the
hardware store...
