Guy or Girl?

I was working at a fast food restaurant in a truck stop. At the time I was legally too young to work the meat slicer so I had to work up front with the customers.
I got accustom to greeting the customers as either sir of ma'am. Well not such a great idea at a truck stop. How could I tell that she was a she? No figure, short hair, ect. Well when I said can I help you sir and she said I am a woman I couldn't say anything I had to get out of there. I am just glad I was not alone up there.
I stopped that..no more sir or ma'am!

embarrassing??: how can this even be embarrassing at all? just a little mistake. girls having short hair mistaken ...embarrassing??how can this even be embarrassing at all? just a little mistake. girls having short hair mistaken for guys or guys having long hair being mistaken for girls. it happens all the time. not all the time you talk to that person, but i meet on the street every few days where i see guys with long hair or girls with short hair. sometimes, i couldn't tell their gender at first, but then i notice.

sthat aint embarrassing. im female and i have real short hair too. people mistaken me all the time but none got embarrassed...and i have met dozens of short haired or bald women/girls.

AnonymousYou're such an amatuer! They way to make up for that is to go "Oh, I am sorry. Its been a long day, and we see many many people. I've been saying sir and ma'am all day, and I lost my mind for a minute." That quickly makes up for it all the time.
