I live in a NY apartment building, and one morning as my roommate left for work, the phone rang for him, so I went in the hall to get him, but the elevator had just taken him and as that door closed, I heard the door to my apartment slam shut behind me, locking me out on the 19th floor.

And I hadn't finished dressing for work yet.

Really mortifying to call for the elevator and ride it down with people dressed for work when you're only in T-shirt, boxers and a pair of bright argyle socks. Plus, the elevator stopped another three times on the way down, making me feel even more self-conscious and naked.

thats not embarrassing at all. you had boxers and a shirt on so it shouldnt have been a big deal.
